X-Men: Apocalypse may be stirring up mixed notices across the globe right now, but that hasn't stopped fans feverishly discussing all those nagging questions left in its wake.

A peculiar film though it is with many curious creative decisions, there's also a lot left up in the air for not only the next X-Men movie, but The Wolverine 3, The New Mutants and a potential future X-Force film sometime down the line.

Aside from speculating what's next, there also some under-developed plot points that could've used a little more fleshing out, some genuinely confusing time-related story elements, and not even a guarantee that some of the series' biggest stars will in fact be returning for more movies.

Though many of these questions may never actually be resolved in-universe, here's our best effort to answer them. Here are the 11 biggest questions X-Men: Apocalypse leaves unanswered...

11. Is Apocalypse Dead For Good?

The Question: After getting vaporised by Jean Grey in the climactic battle, is Apocalypse well and truly dead for good, or could he return some time down the line?

The Likely Answer: Sadly, we're going with yes. Revisiting a villain is always tricky unless their name is The Joker, and the fact that the post-credits scene left no hint of Apocalypse's survival suggests he may actually be legitimately dead and not coming back.

It's a shame considering the character's potential to regenerate and return, but given the movie's heavily mixed reception from fans and critics so far, Bryan Singer may want to just move forward with something totally different.

Maybe he'll return a few films down the line, but we wouldn't bank on it, and getting your hopes up is only setting up disappointment.
