Ever Wondered How Many Calories You Will Consume This Christmas?

MOMA foods have conducted a survey to see just how much people think they will eat

Christmas day is fast approaching. A few final presents may need to be bought, and many of us will be travelling to see friends and family, but the promise of all those amazing festive treats will undoubtedly make it all worthwhile. Food forms a huge part of the holidays, and there is nothing better than sitting down to that dream Christmas meal, so much so that many people even say that Christmas dinner is their meal of choice no matter what time of year. But all that food can really add up, especially when you keep casually dipping into that tin of chocolates. So just how many calories do people think they will consume this Christmas? A recent survey conducted by MOMA asked over 1450 people how many calories they thought they would consume over the holidays. The majority of people asked thought that they would eat between 2000 and 3500 calories over Christmas. The recommended caloric intake according to the NHS is 2500 calories for men and 2000 for women. The results of the survey show that a significant number of people will be exceeding their recommended caloric intake, which shows people really do celebrate at Christmas. The most popular answer was 3000 to 3499 calories with 17% of people thinking they would eat this much during Christmas. However, 16% of respondents thought they would stick to the recommended intake and eat between 2000 and 2499 calories. The results did show there were 11% of people who thought they would eat roughly 1500 calories over their recommended amount with 11% of those asked saying they would eat between 3500 and 3999 calories. There were some people who thought they would eat an exceeding amount of food however as 3% of those asked thought they would eat over 10,000 calories over Christmas. This response was significantly more popular amongst men with 5% of all men asked saying they would eat this much in contrast to 2% of women. People eating over 10,000 calories was relatively equally spread amongst age groups however with either 10 or 11 people in all age groups between 21 to 60 saying they would eat this much. Only 2 people over the age of 60 said they would eat 10,000 calories however. A significant number of people seem to be dieting for Christmas with 15% of those asked saying they would eat up to 1999 calories. That included 6% of people who said they would only eat up to 1499 calories. There was a slight gender divide in this case as 11% of men said they would eat up to 1999 calories while 16% of women said they would eat this much. Eating up to 1499 calories was the least popular with people aged between 51 and 60 with only 4% of them saying they would eat this much in contrast to 10% of under 20s saying they would only eat up to 1499 calories. It€™s interesting to see just how much food people think they will eat over the holidays. Whether you plan on limiting yourself to 1500 calories or think you will embrace all of the festive food on offer and exceed 10,000 calories we€™re certain you€™ll have a great time over Christmas. The holidays are the perfect time to treat yourself, no matter whether that means eating a mince pie or two, or going for a lengthy boxing day walk. All that does matter is that you€™re happy and healthy!
