Combat Wings: The Great Battles of WWII

About the game

Grab your helmet and get your moustache combs at the ready; Combat Wings: The Great Battles of World War II,  City Interactive’s new edition to their historical flight-sim franchise, is almost overhead. Players are given the opportunity to recreate their Granddaddies most horrific war time memories from the safety of their armchairs, across four separate campaigns and in planes directly modelled after the real deals (including Britain’s jewel of the sky Spitfire, the P-38 Lightning, the Messerschmitt 109 and Japanese Kate).

In the single player campaigns, players will take up the mantle of one of four playable characters (depending on the campaign) and meet a slew of non-player characters, both ally and axis, as they tear through the Battle of Britain, The Africa campaign, the Eastern front and the Pacific; all of which have been modelled after the actual manoeuvres that took place in the skies above. City Interactive are also keen to express the variety of multiplayer options, which runs a gamut of gaming modes including Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, Racing, Team Racing, Bomb-Target Hunting, Mission Survival and Fleet Escorting; a regular must for flight sim nuts (who, let’s face it, will inevitably end up running the enemy A.I into the ground) who’ll wish to test their piloting prowess against human competitors online.

It’s a potentially exciting time for flight-sim fans, and even more so for the WWII enthused flight-sim fan. Combat Wings: The Great Battle of World War II is released in the UK on February 10th (Feb 7th in the US). Check back on WhatCulture! for the full review.
