10 Anticipated Video Games That Have Probably Been Cancelled

Deus Ex was quietly taken out back and shot while you weren't looking.

There's excitement, anticipation and filling out your own custom wishlist of potential features - and then there's gamer hype. The most crucial part is - of course - capitalising on said euphoria with a quality product, but there's something to be said for getting completely lost in screenshots, trailers and looking to the future.

Thing is... we've arrived at a point where this mentality encourages companies to flag their games months or sometimes years in advance. Look to the likes of Death Stranding or Final Fantasy VII's remake - both projects that got shown off and became positively received, despite literally not having a single day in production at the time.

Such a system sets many titles up for failure (your No Man's Skys, your Mass Effect Andromedas, your Assassin's Creed Unitys etc.), though when something can deliver or exceed expectations (The Witcher III, GTA V, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Super Mario Odyssey and so on) it establishes a reputation like nothing else.

The following titles are still supposedly in production, but, well, try telling me when you expect to see them...
