10 Awesome Apocalyptic Video Games

9. Fahrenheit

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5lF-bR0K508 David Cage is one of the most imaginative video game creators currently working, and his Fahrenheit is a fantastic little thriller, even if it does get completely ridiculous in the third act, reportedly because the game had to be shortened in the middle due to a rushed development cycle. Anyway, the title begins as Lucas Kane, a regular Joe, ends up being possessed and murdering a man in a diner toilet, causing him to go on the run while the authorities give chase. What follows is a dark crime thriller that pays fair due to its characters - unlike most similar games - as we slowly come to realise that there are greater, far more nefarious forces at work than we possibly could have expected at the outset. Even if their presence is a little shoehorned in at the end, a mysterious cult called The Purple Clan shows up in act three, preparing to unleash a devastating apocalypse upon the world that, you guessed it, only you can prevent, at least if you manage to get the right ending. If you don't, the game's climax has you knocking up the cop who has been pursuing you for the whole game - in one of the most forced and unintentionally hilarious sex scenes in history - before the Clan blocks out the sun and unleashes a winter upon Earth, causing many to die while the rest are murdered by giant robots. We told you it got crazy, and though not every facet works, it's a barmy, thoroughly entertaining adventure all the same.
