10 Best PlayStation 4 Indie Games

9. Transistor

Supergiant, the developers of last-gen indie hit Bastion, decided to stick with Sony for this excellent isometric action game, which takes the awesome gameplay mechanics of its predecessor and fast-forwards them to a stunning cyberpunk setting. You control Red, a singer who's lost her voice and teams up with a giant green sentient sword called Transistor to try and retrieve it. It's a poignant, touching story, accentuated by a gorgeous soundtrack and beautiful, inventive environments inspired by Japanese anime. But if all that sounds a bit artsy and wishy-washy to you, then all you need to know is that this is an excellent action-RPG, with a robust combat system that encourages you to experiment with different weapon combinations and abilities. The boss battles are epic, but many of these bosses also have a story to tell, tinging your victories over them with a bittersweet feeling. Transistor is one of the most complete indie games on the PS4, and proof that storytelling and gameplay can be as masterful on a small budget as they can on a AAA one.
