This is the best "real" fighting game of the year, which makes one all the more nostalgic for Fight Night...
While the stand up is still good and the ground game is largely improved, there's something that the franchise is still missing and is a vital element when discussing a real discipline with real fighters. That issue is in-ring realism, which prevents fights from feeling like a simulation, at the same time making the controls frustrating.
The creators went out of their way to make learning the controls easy on the gamer, and once mastered, he/she can do some serious damage, but still, the punching and grappling combinations just don't come naturally. Which is a shame, because the graphics are beautiful, the player models are stunning, and the game is actually a large improvement over UFC 1.
It's a game that demands a lot of time and patience, but if you're a diehard MMA fan, it's definitely worth the effort. For all the other fight fans, there's KO Mode, where you have to beat your opponent in a best of three standing match.
