As we're about to embark on the final quarter of 2017 - a year that in gaming, has been nothing short of spectacular - it's important to not only reflect back on what went well, but what's still left to come.

Though we've had a more relaxed summer, those opening few months were genuinely relentless, and with autumn officially being kickstarted by the immaculate Sonic Mania and Uncharted: Lost Legacy, it's a fantastic way to get back into the swing of things.

From sequels to soft reboots, potential franchise-savers and new IPs looking to make their mark on the world, yes Horizon and Zelda will take some beating, but the run-up to Xmas is always an incredibly fun one. Because if there's one thing the industry does remarkably well, it's build hype.

We all love being completely enraptured by whatever's on the horizon, even if that glimpse of sunlight can blind us to the realities of a final product. Still, when what's being offered is everything from a galaxy far, far away to Bungie's latest work and what should be one of the best platformers in gaming, you can be forgiven for getting a little starry-eyed.
