10 Exceptional First-Person Shooter Games That Defined The Last 10 Years

10. Crysis 2

Crysis 2 takes place in a run down New York City. You play as Alcatraz, a former marine, and you're outfitted with a nano suit that allow you to do things a normal man just couldn't do. The suit adds an element most shooting games don't have: it lets you feel more powerful than you already are. The game quickly tosses you into an open world where you must fight off an array of aliens and humans alike. The fights are memorable and only get better as the game progresses. At the same time, you can't help but get lost at the site of the beautifully tragic city that you find yourself immersed in throughout. The nano suit you're outfitted with is a pleasure to use, as is the array of weapons you have to choose from. Both of these aspects were fan favorites, as they helped make the game into something different from its contemporaries. For me, however, the lengthy singles campaign is what kept me happy. However, the game also features a great multiplayer mode with plenty of options to choose from (if that's what you prefer). In my opinion, though, the defining aspect of this game is the fact that you use a bow and arrow throughout the campaign. The bow is fun to use and incredibly refreshing - it's the little things, I guess. The original Crysis did an excellent job of laying the foundation, but it was its successor took the whole experience to another level. Don't miss this one.
