2007 was a mysterious time. Big Brother was actually relevant, 'emo' was everywhere, and we had yet to be introduced to Justin Bieber, selfie culture and, worst of all, Fifty Shades of Grey.

Okay, it didn't exactly come in a black and white filter. People didn't ride around in a horse and cart, say 'spiffing' or spend all day down the mines, but sometimes it's just good to pinch yourself as a reminder of just how much everything can change in ten years.

Consider the following entries providing a good old pinching as we take you on a journey through some of our collective gaming habits from 2007. Or '2K7', as we used to call it on our Bebo* profiles.

*As a side note: If you're too young to know what Bebo is, there are a few things I'd recommend doing to get yourself into the right mindset. Open up Spotify and add Avril Lavigne's The Best Damn Thing, Girls Aloud's Tangled Up, MIKA's Life in Cartoon Motion and that one song Chamillionaire had (Ridin', I believe) to a playlist before we go any further.

10. Your Grandparents Called Themselves Gamers

While we were all arguing over whether the PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360 was 'winning' the seventh generation console war, the Nintendo Wii was the real winner. The underpowered box trashed its competition where it really mattered: sales.

Though motion controls may be dirty words nowadays, the novelty of the Wii Remote made the console into a true phenomenon. Like Pokémon GO in 2016, major news outlets were covering the supposed health benefits of the Wii and acknowledging that video games were a thing that existed outside of stock eighties footage.

We've all got a friend who accidentally threw their controller into their TV or a story about your family suddenly deciding they were 'l33t gamerz' after they beat you at Wii Sports bowling. It's those shared moments that made it such a magical console.

Knock the Wii for its shovelware (and there was plenty) all you want, but 2007 saw the release of Super Mario Galaxy, one of the best games of all time.

Seriously, go dust your Wii off (or borrow your Nan's if you sold yours) and give Galaxy a go, even for half an hour. It's truly magical.
