9. Stephen Merchant Wheatley in Portal 2

Well, a tight script, great gameplay and an awesome voice cast would be a start, not that the first hadn't covered all of this already. It would be remiss not to mention Ellen McLain who was awesome as the murderous computer GLaDOS, but for me Portal 2 was made on Steven Merchant's comedy gold performance as Wheatley, the moronic artificial 'intelligence'. We spent the game waiting for the next cracking line delivered in Merchants mildly bumpkin Bristolian accent. It is no small credit that Merchant's performance was nominated for a VGA Award for Best Character.
