10 Hotly Anticipated RPGs That'll Blow You Away In 2016

4. Torment: Tides Of Numenera - PC, Mac, Linux

This Kickstarter-funded RPG - one of the highest-funded Kickstarter games ever with $4.2 million - is being made by the same brilliant minds who brought us Wasteland 2. It is also the spiritual successor to one of the most loved RPGs of the 90s, Planescape: Torment. The original game put players in control of The Nameless One, a confused tribal dude who set out on a quest to rediscover the memory of the many past lives he's lived. it ran on the same Infinity Engine as the Baldur's Gate series, using AD&D rules. In other words, it's the kind of game Dungeons & Dragons zealots would call a 'real' RPG. In Tides of Numenera, players control the Last Castoff, a reincarnation of an ancient human who has no memory of his previous forms, and goes in search of recollecting his past. The game will use D&D-style combat mechanics, and likes its predecessor will be a heavily story-driven game, with a rich dialogue system and plenty of companions who can join you on your quest. The game looks gorgeous too, with all the backgrounds being pre-rendered and hand-drawn. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ybqE8FlLrqg Instead of using a strict morality system to define how your character develops, Numenera will use the titular 'Tides' to affect how characters respond to the player. Your Tides will also influence your Legacy, which will open and close off opportunities to use special abilities and weapons, as well as affect how other characters interact with you. Tides of Numenera is expected to be released by the end of 2015.
