9. The Last Guardian
With every passing video game trade show comes the re-ignited hope and excitement that Team Ico will revive one of the PlayStation 3's most anticipated titles, The Last Guardian, the developer's spiritual follow-up to the massively acclaimed Ico and Shadow of the Colossus. The game pits you as a human who has to co-operate with an over-sized griffin to navigate an unforgiving landscape; what really distinguishes it is that you and the creature have to co-operate in order to progress, as each is capable of doing things that the other cannot. Reports have been conflicting for the last 3 years or so, ranging from the game being near-finished but mired in glitches and bugs, to it requiring a wealth of re-working. At E3 this year, Sony's Jack Tretton stated that the game was on a hiatus, but that it definitely wasn't cancelled. Given that the PS3 is obviously winding down its tenure with gamers now, it would be smart to get the game out sooner rather then later, though rumours have recently surfaced that the game is being reworked as a PlayStation 4 title. We'll have to wait and see; I remain skeptical that the thing's ever coming out.
