10 Most Intriguing Indie Gaming Releases Yet To Come In 2014

Step outside Triple-A games and you'll find the most intriguing releases of the year.

Over the last 5 years independent games have reached a new zenith, receiving far more critical and commercial success than ever before. With games like Braid and Trine paving the way for a new age of independent games, gameplay and design have taken precedence over sheer graphical power, opening up the creative floodgates. 2013 was littered with incredible independent games, Don€™t Starve, Gone Home and Papers, Please were all incredibly unique, incredibly entertaining and above all, independent. For a lot of people independent games are far more interesting, and the fact that the games often have a lower price point is a bonus. The big games companies are not willing to be as adventurous, a decision made with some business sense behind it. Big publishers have far more to lose if their risks do not pay off; smaller game companies are far more flexible and are therefore able to take risks with unique art styles, game play and even concepts. These risks do not always pay off, some of these games may not be a critical or a commercial success, but what is equally important is that they tried something unique or at least something interesting. The games on this list do not belong to any one console, nor do they all have set release dates. What connects them all is that they are going to be intriguing, though often for many different reasons. Some of the games on this list may have a unique art direction, while others might have a setting rarely seen in gaming before, others may have a completely new way to approach an old genre, while some are just plain nuts.
