There is undoubtedly no greater example of a villain being right all along in video game storytelling than Saturos and Menardi. No, not the delivery boys from that giro place, the primary antagonists of the original Golden Sun!
In this most celebrated role-playing title, we’re led to believe that stopping this pair from breaking the seal of alchemy by releasing Elemental Stars into their respective Elemental Lighthouses is the righteous thing. Oh, how wrong we were.
Isaac and his team, it turns out, were poorly directed from the beginning and were in simple terms actually the bad guys all along (we told you there were spoilers). That’s right, instead of allowing the world to embrace alchemy once again and evolve to a higher plane, the player was inhibiting the world of Weyard, a truth that’s only revealed to us at the conclusion of the first game.
And so, one of the greatest twists on RPG perspective came to be, and Golden Sun as a result holds its place as one of the greatest games ever released on Game Boy Advance. Alright, fine, it’s the best.
