2017 has been packed with some huge video games so far. Titles like Horizon Zero Dawn and Breath of the Wild have offered plenty for fans to sink their teeth into, but the time commitment necessary to get the most out of their sizeable structures can be as off-putting as it is inviting.

With releases being bigger than ever, it means that players simply don't have the time to get through every major new title. Even if they tired, modern games are designed in a way to hold your attention for as long as possible, luring you into grinds that keep you playing for far longer than just the standard 12 hours a blockbuster used to last for.

Sometimes though, a game comes around that you need to drop everything and play, no matter the cost. Hoovering up your time and ensuring you ignore every other major release until you've had your fill, there are many games that many players have quite the passionate love affair with in 2017.

It doesn't matter whether they were big sequels or small indies, these are the addictive titles that keep players up into the early hours of the morning whispering "Just one more game..."

10. Fortnite: Battle Royale

Being the only battle royale experience currently available on consoles, Fortnite's free-to-play side mode took off when it released earlier in 2017. Amassing a huge player base seemingly overnight, it took less than a couple of weeks for the game to hit 10 million users.

It's easy to see why, too. Dropping 100 players into an open world with nothing but an axe to their name and letting them duke it out until only one remains, Battle Royale's central premise was different enough to attract console multiplayer gamers looking for a unique experience.

It helped that Fornite's core combat was pretty good as well, being surprisingly weighty and impactful despite the cartoon aesthetic. Barebones at the moment though, the developers have constantly been tweaking the experience, letting players know that this already decent game can only improve going forward.

Consequently, despite lacking the content found in other battle royale games, Fortnite has provided players with a prosperous foundation that will be built upon in the months to come.
