In light of the Switch's success, it's fair to find humour at the expense of Nintendo that its hugely successful hybrid console has already surpassed the Wii U's entire lifetime sales, but there's still collateral damage to be accounted for. The games.

Nintendo has already committed resources to making amends for the criminally small audience games like Bayonetta 2 and Pokkén Tournament attracted through no fault of their own and there's plenty more to come in 2019, too. As a small nod to its origin, New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe makes the jump in the fledgeling first few weeks of 2019, not only combining Mario and Luigi's standalone adventures from the now-defunct console but adding additional content in the form of new playable characters and power-ups.

Whether the innovative suite of couch co-op features carry over for the port remains to be seen, but it'd be a shame to see the ability to manipulate level layouts for friends in real time be dropped to accommodate the Switch's alien architecture.

Regardless, for many, this, like a whole lot of the Wii U's library, is essentially a brand new game for the millions that declined to give the Wii U any attention.
