10 Most Awesome Video Game Openings

9. Prey

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=St1GiZpGrCs Prey may not be an excellent or particularly memorable game overall, but it certainly benefited from an extremely memorable and brilliant opening sequence, which basically cemented the badass tone that the developers would attempt - and not quite succeed - to realise throughout. The game begins with Native American protagonist Tommy sitting around in a bar - doesn't sound so interesting, right? It gets better; you talk to the bar's other patrons, and the barmaid, your on-off-on-off girlfriend Jen, before toying around with the jukebox. It's when Blue Oyster Cult's "Don't Fear The Reaper" kicks in that things get crazy, as a car in the bar's parking lot flies into the air, and an alien spaceship descends over the bar, disintegrating the roof and then dragging off all of the bar's patrons, specifically Jen. Tommy is left alone with only a wrench, and so his quest begins to get his lost love back. Though the rest of the game failed to live up to this excellence, it's a scene of brilliant ingenuity, and it would struggle not to be given how imaginatively it used Blue Oyster Cult.
