10 Most Badass Backstories In Mortal Kombat History

9. Onaga

The former ruler of Outworld with an immunity to magic and the ability to raise the dead; The Dragon King Onaga is a formidable foe within the Mortal Kombat canon. Perhaps the biggest sign of this is that, rather than fight him in combat, series antagonist Shao Kahn chose to have him poisoned. Onaga had long quested for immortality; so it should come as no surprise, especially in the world of Mortal Kombat, that he managed to rise from the dead. He is said to be a vessel for the One Being, who's destruction lead to the creation of the Realms, to operate; and his motives are often tied to his eventually becoming the One Being and wielding his power. Once defeated after his rise from the dead; Onaga formed an uneasy alliance with Shao Kahn, Shang Tsung & Quan Chi under Shinnok to defeat Blaze and gain his god-like powers. Perhaps underlining his place on this list, and contrary to his previous motivations, Onaga chose this moment to attack Shao Kahn in revenge for his murder; carrying him away from the battle rather than focus on gaining Blaze's powers.
