9. Assassin’s Creed 2: Brotherhood – Rome’s Viewpoints
What makes the viewpoints of Rome amazing is that the entire city was built to scale. Ubisoft didn’t just build parts of the city as they did with previous games nor did they decide to make it smaller to save on disc space. If you scaled Ezio up to the size of a normal human being, you’d have the entire city of Rome just as you’d expect it in the 16th century.
When you climb to the top of the Brotherhood sanctuary and get the Ubisoft signature sweeping view, you begin to realise how much work must have gone into designing and creating this entire city.

I loved this list, but I was really suprised not to see Uncharted or Heavy Rain make an appearance. I agree with the trailer for Dead Island though, it was fantastic!
I didn’t really consider Heavy Rain to be a game, it was more an interactive movie so I thought best to leave it out and include games with actual gameplay; well at least more gameplay than Heavy Rain.
it’s really weird to talk about cinematics and not include Uncharted in any way even though this was the game that revolutionized cinematics to such a degree that now every game wants to be cinematic from Battlefield to Tomb Raider to Remember Me and even next gen games like Star Wars 1313 and WatchDogs.
You just have to take a peek at the list of awards that Uncharted 2 has won this gen to realize how incredibly influential this game was to this gen.
Am I the only one who thought the entire game Portal is super engrossing and cinematic? Especially the ending was super awesome for me, but the Dead Island trailer I still think is the best video game trailer I’ve ever seen.
Most definitely Uncharted 2′s opening should be in here. Heavy Rain’s sequence in the mall was really great too.
Great article! I do agree with everyone regarding Uncharted! The section with the helicopter and the exploding hotel in and the attack on the village whose name escapes me in Uncharted 2, not to mention the Cruise ship and the cargo plane in Uncharted 3! Then of course the whole desert section of Uncharted 3. Countless breathtaking, cinematic, moments.
As well as that, Dark Souls had plenty of great cinematic moments, if you haven’t played it i’d reccomend it for sure, first arriving in Anor Londo, or Ash Lake, and the appearance of Sif. Brilliant.
I don’t want to be ‘that guy’, but you said it was Shepard, Thane and Wrex walking towards the Collector’s Ship. It was actually Grunt, not Wrex.
