10 Most Disappointing Video Games Of 2018

10. Shadow Of The Tomb Raider

Shadow Of The Tomb Raider Lara Croft
Square Enix

Since Square Enix rebooted Tomb Raider back in 2013, they've been dogged by bad luck and even worse business decisions. The initial reboot was a cracking title that dropped in the twilight of the Xbox 360 era, confidently reintroducing players to a new version of Lara Croft. Unfortunately, it didn't sell anywhere near publisher forecasts, and the decision was made to make the sequel an Xbox exclusive (despite the series historically being associated with the PlayStation brand).

Again, the game was a knockout, deepening the strong foundations set in the original. But it sold even less than its predecessor and the brand's popularity plummeted. After a swift developer change, however, there was hope that the final entry in the reboot trilogy, now releasing across every platform simultaneously, would reignite the fire under the series.

Once again, though, the title came and went without any fanfare, only this time it was justified. Not a bad game by any means, Shadow's attempt to push the franchise even more into quasi-open world territory made the whole affair feel a little bloated, while the general gameplay structure had progressed little since Rise, which just couldn't cut it in a year that saw so many other popular names reinvent themselves completely.
