10 Most Epic Deaths In Video Game History

8. John Marston (Red Dead Redemption)

Goodhearted cowboy John Marston had given up on his life as a gunslinging outlaw and just wanted to live out on his days in peace and tranquillity. He'd found a little farm with his wife and son and was determined to steer clear of crime and quick draw duels, but the detestable Agent Ross wasn't about to let that happen.

Ross arrives at Marston's ranch, along with around three dozen armed men. John knows he hasn't got a chance, but he has to sacrifice himself in order to give his family time to escape. He boldly steps out through the barn doors and brings down as many of the soldiers as he possibly can before being riddled with holes.

Marston's sacrifice was a heartrending moment for players who had grown to love him over the course of the game. Fortunately, Red Dead Redemption's epilogue gave us a much-needed dose of justice. The final scenes saw us play as John's son, Jack, in his successful quest for revenge against Ross, proving that his father didn't die in vain.
