10 Most Frustrating Moments In RPG History

Annoy1 A rather embarrassing part of my childhood was spent in front of my PC and TV lost in magical fantasy worlds, be it the frosted peaks of Tamriel's mountains or the murky depths of a Final Fantasy dungeon. Sure, when it was sunny I was outside kicking a football around or rolling down a hill with friends, but being England this was limited to about 3 days a year. The rest of the year I was playing RPG after RPG and adding hour after hour to my total game-play time. Sadly we live in a world where EA are happy to beat a game series to death for those final few pennies and game developers will include quirky mechanics that will having you screaming in rage and tearing your hair out. I can get my head around bugs and glitches, after all there are thousands and thousands of lines of code in a game and some things are bound to be missed; granted when it comes to Bethesda they do seem to release more bugs in their games than all the other developers combined. What really gets me though is when a developer comes up with a new "innovative" idea that they implement and then claim that it will "change the face of gaming" when they announce their new title. There are some moments in a game where I'll just stare at the screen blankly trying to figure out whether I should be playing the game at all or whether I should just bounce a ball on the floor as entertainment. For instance one of the first games I purchased for my PS2 was The Sands of Time and after playing for a while I could not defeat the Prince's father in the main hall. I tried over and over and always ended up low on health and all out of sands, my character's death only moments away. I can't remember how many times I attempted to clear this boss but I know that I never got past him and it was until a few years ago when I brushed the dust off my PS2 that I managed to continue the game. In this article I'll be exploring other frustrating moments that I've experienced whilst playing RPGs and I promise you, they're not all in Final Fantasy games...I hope.
