10 Most Heart-Wrenching Moments in Gaming

8. Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess - Midna's Departure

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rn_8htN7YOY I've played all of the Zelda games from The Hyrule Fantasy to Skyward Sword, but none of them had an ending that hit me like Twilight Princess. Now I know a lot of you are going to be up in arms about this, but I'm talking about the actual game not how it was ported over and played on the Wii. I really enjoyed the story and the bond that Link shared with Midna merely strengthened that enjoyment. Sure she was this annoying chatterbox sitting on your back most of the time but as you progressed through the game you could see them growing closer and closer. Of course the story itself doesn't measure up to some other sad games however the ending is what got me, it was rather unexpected. I knew at some point Midna would have to return to the Twilight zone but I thought she'd still be able to visit or communicate with Link. Zant and Ganondorf were defeated and Hyrule was saved, surely that was the end of it all? I can understand Midna's reasoning though, the best way to prevent this from happening all over again is to sever all connections between light and dark. Still, using her tear to break the mirror and Zelda's comforting words makes it a very sad scene.
