10 Most Offensive Gaming Moments Ever

1. Battlefield 3

The majority of the games on this list will be either amateur or outdated (not that either particularly justifies their offensiveness), but it seems appropriate to start with a bang with a much more recent game that hit the headlines - though not enough - for its perceived homophobia. Battlefield 3 is an intelligently crafted video game, and one that garnered hugely positive critical response - and rightly so based on the gameplay experience - but there was one thing that blemished the game's reputation badly. Characters under pressure can be heard exclaiming in anguish that they're getting their "sh*t pushed in," or getting "f*cked in the *ss" - exclamations that of course transmit their fears at being penned in by enemy fire. But if you pick apart what they are saying in relation to the situation, they are obviously relating homosexuality with negative connotations, attaching shame to it and reinforcing the idea of the behaviour as abhorrent and abnormal. Fans will argue that the dialogue does not have that intention - and that the phrase echoes realistic combat language - but the implication is still hugely offensive, and DICE should have left it out.
