10 Most Offensive Gaming Moments Ever

7. Muslim Massacre

Unfortunately, as long as there are huge, vociferous reactions to any anti-religious material that gets published in print or online - regardless how clearly idiotic the source, or how little they actually speak for the rest of the world - there will be an element of the worldwide community who see it as an opportunity to attract themselves some attention. Muslim Massacre is one such example of that behaviour - a game with no creative merit or entertainment value (not that it would have merit if it were engaging), based quite criminally on a mangled sense of patriotism as the player controls an "American Hero" dropped into the Middle East and charged with killing as many Muslims as possible. Had its parody element been more intelligently crafted, and its comment on modern shooters been more well executed, the offensiveness wouldn't have been so pricked and the game could have made some merit as a form of protest. But that's clearly not what's going on here, and it's more a case of developer Eric Vaughn attempting to gain a controversial rise. He said so himself (as quoted by Murad Ahmed in The Times):
"I think it's pretending to be legitimate commentary and I'm sure there will be lots of people who defend it on those grounds, but ultimately it's just a game where you blow the gently caress (Something Awful's forum world filter for a common swear word) out of Arabs."
Yes it's amateur, but thanks to the coverage the game got enough people explored it to make it count as an important gaming moment. http://youtu.be/G2LWxGHxHG8
