10 Obnoxious Viewpoints Closeminded Gamers Hold

Ea1

There's still fervent chatter taking place on Rob Kojder's article about obnoxious viewpoints held by closeminded moviegoers, and so I thought why not hold the mirror up to gamers as well? In a follow-up to Rob's prior article about the reasons why some gamers are obnoxious, it's time to examine 10 more of the ridiculously childish, closeminded opinions that many - but not all - gamers hold. Whether it stems from a misplaced sense of entitlement or simple ignorance, here are 10 obnoxious viewpoints that keyboard warriors around the world love to shove down our throats about gaming. Are they sometimes right? Of course, but it's the absolute, black-and-white context of these rants that renders them so utterly insufferable, to the point where logic is trumped by HOW FAST CAN YOU ANGRILY TYPE!!!? If those involved had a slightly better manner - and probably got a little more fresh air - they might be in a mood more conducive to earning sympathy. As it stands, their ramblings just come across as flat-out obnoxious...

10. The Story Doesn't Matter, Just Let Me Blow S*** Up

This is, above all else, an artistic argument, and one that is stereotypically held by casual gamers. They're the sorts of folk who will buy an action-orientated game like Grand Theft Auto, Call of Duty or God of War and skip all the cut-scenes due to their sheer, unbridled impatience to satisfy their itchy trigger finger. While we all appreciate a no-nonsense action game now and then, it devalues the video game medium entirely to gloss over the notion of a story actually driving the actions that we perform on-screen, especially as the debate over whether video games are art is at its most fiercely-contested point. When I hear people say, "I don't care about the story", it just makes me groan; though video games are mostly still a way off from coming close to movies and books in terms of narrative depth, if we as players aren't fussed, then the chances are that generally the developers won't be either.
