We’re starting to move through Q3 into Q4 for the year, and that means the games are going to come thick and fast. The end of the year is both awards’ season and the Christmas rush, so often the creme de la creme save themselves for September onwards.
After 2018 served up Red Dead Redemption 2, God Of War and Spider-Man, there’s a lot of pressure on 2019 to deliver. Whether it can provide three generation defining classics remains to be seen, but there’s certainly a lot of hugely anticipated titles still to come.
From reliable yearly releases to exciting new IPs and the return of old favourites, 2019 really does have something for everyone. If you’re in the market for a new game in the next few months, you’ll be spoiled for choice.
Typically, the most anticipated titles are the gritty, often violent shooters. There’s nothing wrong with that - games are a wonderful place for escapism - but it does mean more campy releases like Luigi’s Mansion, Mario & Sonic At The Olympic Games and even the remake of MediEvil miss out here.
All could still be great games in their own way, but they won’t generate headlines like this lot.
