10 Reasons Nintendo Switch Online Is A Crushing Disappointment

Nintendo gonna Nintendo.

Some 18 months after the Nintendo Switch first landed on shelves, Nintendo finally rolled out the platform's long-awaited online service this week, handily named Nintendo Switch Online.

It's fair to say that the early fan response has been, er, pretty rough, and justifiably so. It'd be silly to expect Nintendo to nail a home-run here given their historic lack of interest in consumer-friendly practises and bizarre allergy to online features, but even so, this is incredibly disappointing stuff.

It's entirely possible the company could turn things around in the future and make this a value-filled service, but right out of the gate it's not remotely appetising unless you have a strong nostalgia for the NES.

You can at least try out a 7-day trial for yourself to see how it all works - just remember to cancel that auto-renew! - though many Switch owners will inevitably be holding fire on this until they want to play Super Smash Bros. Ultimate near the end of the year.

As wonderful a machine as the Switch is, it's insanely frustrating that Nintendo has such a dated, obstinate aversion to moving with the times...
