10 Reasons Why The Next Generation Could Be The Last For Consoles

10. Bringing PC Into The Living Room

pc living room Gabe Newell spoke at DICE this year about his hopes for the PC platform in gaming. In the talk he spoke about the rising numbers of PC gamers and also some of the challenges that face the platform in the wake of consoles. While mentioning user inputs that haven't been adapted ( motion controls etc.) has kept casual and family audiences away, he also mentioned that the PC struggles because people don't use them 'in the living room' Our Xboxs and Playstations are no longer just for playing games. They are now all encompassing media boxes where we can store our music, movies and even watch TV on. While the PC is capable of this, some would say even better at it, not many people want to have to mess around with a desktop in their living room. PC designers know this and are becoming wiser to the idea that if they want to compete and even make consoles obsolete, they will have to find ways to introduce the platform into the living room. Looking at ideas of streaming from a computer to a television and the possibility of cloud streaming data from servers could eventually allow a PC not just to be a tool for work, but also a media box for the whole family to use, like current consoles are.
