10 Scariest Ever Video Game Characters

8. Mainliners - The Suffering

The Suffering was a pretty scary yet completely underrated game. You played a death row inmate called Torque, accused of murdering your wife and two children, although you have no recollection of that event even due to having blacked out at the time. You are sent to Carnate Island to await execution, though there's suddenly a huge earthquake that somehow allows a load of monsters into the prison. Your sole goal is to escape from the prison alive. What made each of the monsters great was the fact that they were designed by late, legendary monster-maker Stan Winston. Each of these monsters also represented a form of corporal punishment. Out of the whole bunch of them though, the scariest was the Mainliner. This guy represented death by lethal injection and as you may have thought, was covered in them, and even had needles for eyes. They were small and hunched over and let out a guttural sort of screeching. Ugh. Mainliners attacked by either throwing their injections at you (yes), or by lunging and trying to stab you with them. The only thing more terrifying than the Mainliner was coming face to face with a group of them. Which happened. A lot.
