10 Terrifying Horror Video Games Coming In 2016

1. Perception

Blindness is rarely explored in video games, other than the archetypal 'all-seeing sage' that seems to populate every RPG. But when this subject matter is taken on by former members of the BioShock team, you can expect a more interesting take on it.

Perception is a first-person horror game in which you play as Cassie, a young blind woman who goes to explore a mansion in New England after getting visions of it in her dreams. So how does one explore without sight? Echolocation, of course, and while Perception is probably quite generous about how much you can see each time you tap the ground with Cassie's cane, the all-pervading darkness of the game still feels claustrophobic and unsettling.

Each time you tap the ground, you see a temporary, ghostly blue-and-black view of your surroundings, but doing so also attracts the Presence - the ghost that haunts the mansion, and presumably has bad intentions towards you. Because of this, the game is a nerve-wracking balancing act between being aware of your surroundings and avoiding detection.

Despite looking very much like a no-combat 'helpless' horror game, the inner monologues of the protagonist suggest it's also a personal story about Cassie - which we expect will be delivered with gusto by the erstwhile BioShock devs.

Which game do you think will satisfy your needs to feel fear this year? Anything we missed? Let us know with a comment!
