Mortal Kombat is a franchise well-known for its mature content, bloody combat and distinctive art-style. While Street Fighter II may have revolutionized the fighting game genre in terms of mechanics and game-play, Mortal Kombat perfected the formula in way of style, personality and character design. Just by looking at a frame, a still or seconds of footage, MK is easily recognizable as its own brand - it's unmistakable and wholly distinct. The growth of such a recognizable gaming franchise is never instant, it builds with each installment, with each additional character, chiseled by each development or addition.
