The internet joked about the game countless times before launch, and with good reason. Hunting for Pokémon by waving your phone around is pretty much the closest any fan is going to get to the 'real thing', and the nostalgia factor is positively through the roof.

Not to mention, all the predictions that people will end up straying from their friendly neighbourhood streets and cul-de-sacs, only to stumble into the most improbably and dangerous of places like a colossal nitwit have come true.

You've probably seen plenty of funny pictures on your Facebook telling people to stop catching Pokémon on the job, or that the little monsters located in your local coffee shop are 'only for paying customers'.

Surely people wouldn't be so silly enough as to break into out-of-bounds areas just to catch their favourites, right? Don't be so sure...

Darwin's Northern Territory Police, Fire and Emergency Services in Australia recently posted on their Facebook page that “For those budding Pokémon Trainers out there using Pokémon Go... please be advised that you don't actually have to step inside in order to gain the pokeballs.”

At least the police were good sports about the whole ordeal. As the Aussie police correctly pointed out, as long as you catch them in your sights, there's no need to start breaking and entering into other peoples' workplaces while glueing your face to your smartphone's screen.

Remember, Pokémon trainers never put themselves in danger (they might do in the cartoons and games, but they can also survive a high-voltage zap or a flamethrower blast to the face without dying, so don't bother pointing that out). Building construction sites, warehouses, minefields, and Blackpool are all dangerous places; avoid them at all costs, no matter how tempting.
