10 Times Video Game Critics Got It Wrong

9. Deadly Premonition

Metacritic Score: 6.8

User Score: 8.3

There's just no game out there like Deadly Premonition.

When it first released, Deadly Premonition was slammed by critics, but its cult status with players has managed to elevate it beyond what the critics said.

The weirdest part is that a lot of complaints about Deadly Premonition are actually pretty correct. The game is a mess in many regards, and its graphics and gameplay do leave a lot to be desired. Despite all of this, Deadly Premonition is pretty much a masterpiece in what it tries to do.

Deadly Premonition is a passion project through and through, and is so oddly charming that it literally can't be explained without playing it. Many aspects of it are so unique and self-aware that reviewing it is, perhaps, impossible. You can't really blame the critics on this one, even if they did miss the point.

Even if critics were right in many ways, Deadly Premonition is absolutely essential as a gaming experience, and that's something only a few people caught onto.

Jumping through portals, swinging through cities, destroying beings made of darkness and occasionally shooting a gun or two. I also write about games.
