10 Top Current-Gen Gaming Romances

8. Comm. Shepard & Liara T'Soni (Mass Effect Series)

I was afraid you'd hate me. - Liara
Mass Effect is one of the blockbuster gaming series in video games. The games garner massive hype and sell pretty well too. Its mix of TPS and RPG elements have enticed many to try the game and its story is why they stay. As with most Bioware games, part of the main story tends to include a romance subplot opportunity if the player so chooses. And again as with most Bioware games, you have more than just one companion to romance. As such, picking only one for this list was slightly hard, although the relationship between Comm. Shepard and Liara T'Soni is personally the games' best. It helps that for arguments sake, Liara is a potential romance option in all three Mass Effect games. Granted, it required purchasing additional DLC for Mass Effect 2, but it was still there. Relationships that last for three games tend to be memorable. Liara's an Asari scientist who we meet mid-way through Mass Effect 1. She's the daughter of Matriarch Benezia, Saren's partner in crime. She finds herself being an outcast in most situations, even amongst the Normandy crew. As such Comm. Shepard's affections are unusual for her. Originally peaked by her scientific intrigue of Comm. Shepard, she ultimately falls in love. Liara is also the one who hands over Comm. Shepard's body to Cerberus at the beginning of Mass Effect 2, reviving Comm. Shepard, out of love. Her love lasts throughout the three games in the Mass Effect series, and is one of the highlights of the series. Individually, each Mass Effect game feels a bit lacking in romance, as the games tends to cater and treat each romantic option equally, meaning less individual flair. Collectively however, Liara and Comm. Shepard's romance stands strong and becomes very memorable.
