Mainstream video games are hardly renowned for their storytelling prowess, but thanks to titles like Red Dead Redemption or The Last Of Us, they’ve gotten a little more advanced over the years.

Just like movies and television, they love to inject mysteries and cliffhangers into the narrative, and leave lingering questions unanswered.

This is always a good way to stir up debate amongst players, and there are entire forums dedicated to unpacking certain video game mysteries. Sometimes the answers are eventually revealed, thanks to the developers letting them slip during an interview, or quietly inserting the solution into another game.

These answers aren’t always easy to find, but with a little detective work (aka Google) it’s possible to track them down. In some cases, the mysteries are best left unsolved, but knowing the truth can add an extra layer to the experience - or make you really useful during a pub quiz.

Anyway, here are ten lingering video game mysteries we now know the answers to, and how they affect the game.

While Daniel Craig’s Bond era may go down as one of the best, his video game run hasn't been so hot. His remake of GoldenEye was dull, and 007 Legends needs to be buried in a deep, dark hole and never discussed again.

Probably his best was Blood Stone, a third person adventure with an engaging story but average gameplay. The plot takes Bond all over the globe and it has a couple of decent twists. The final level has him chase down a traitorous agent, who reveals a powerful man was secretly behind the events of the game. Before she can reveal who he is, a drone flies by and kills her, leaving his identity a mystery.

Thanks to the release of Spectre, we now know it was none other than Blofeld, who has been behind just about every nefarious event in Bond’s career. This revelation doesn’t make Blood Stone a better game, but it at least ties up the loose end.

Handsome. Charismatic. Intelligent. Noble. Witty. I'm none of these things, but I'm a half decent writer, I guess.
