10 Upcoming 2018 Video Games That Will Struggle To Live Up To The Hype

9. Dragon Ball FighterZ

“The more the merrier” is a phrase that might apply in arcade games if we were talking about character selection, alternative costumes or special abilities, but Dragon Ball FighterZ is playing with fire by joining Marvel vs. Capcom in the team arena.

On paper, the option of shifting between Super Saiyan God Goku to Majin Buu and then to Bulma (pfft, Bulma…) seems fun, but considering it’s been some years since Bandai Namco really nailed a Dragon Ball game for what it should be, I'm just not yet convinced.

To be clear, no Dragon Ball video game has ever quite lived up to expectations because Dragon Ball is one of the greatest series ever created, and to do so would require me actually being able to train with Goku in a gravity machine or Hyperbolic Time Chamber. So… almost impossible.

The other disconcerting thing about FighterZ is that it’s been developed by Arc System Works, whose only previous experience with Dragon Ball games has come on Nintendo DS and Gameboy Advance titles.

A difficult transition to true consoles could lie in store.
