10 Utterly Bizarre Video Game Easter Eggs You Probably Missed

8. Diablo: Livestock Levels

Diablo II Cow King
Blizzard Entertainment

The devilish franchise that charges gamers with offing the Great Horned One was always going to feature some pretty odd features, as well as nightmarish sequences to match the title, so it was never all that surprising to discover that the second game included a level full of murderous bovines. Cows are incredibly scary creatures, which is perhaps what prompted gamers to spread a rumour that clicking a certain number of times on a certain cow in the first game unlocked a hallowed all-cow level.

That turned out to be simple trolling, and no such level existed, as Blizzard confirmed (and no doubt sent certain gamers into a rage spin after spending days clicking on cows for no reward) but they did bow to fan pressure and include the "secret" level in Diablo II.

Finding Murderous Cowville, as no-one would call it, meant completing the game and then combining two items to create a portal, which transported the player to a land of green meadows and blood-thirsty bipedal mooers led by the Cow King (whose ghost would later appear in Diablo III to deny the existence of a cow level in that game.)

Turns out he wasn't lying, since crafting a portal for the supposed second Secret Cow Level actually leads you here...

Touche, Blizzard!
