10 Video Game Platformers That Deserve A Remake

If Spyro got one, why not these?

Platforming games have fallen out of favour with the gaming industry, as very few developers create anything within the genre anymore. It's hard to believe given the long list of platformers and the beloved nature of those games that we see very few triple-A games devoted solely to the simple premise of jumping from one place to the other. More often than not, they are relegated to indie titles.

We have, however, seen a resurgence in remakes of popular platforming classics. First, we had Crash Bandicoot and now we are getting a new Spyro remake, which begs the question as to what platforming gems of yore will be getting shined up and brought back to the gaming spotlight.

There is a veritable cornucopia of choices, not to mention the genres from which you can pick. You have your simple side-scrollers, 3-D platformers, collectathons, MetroidVania's, run and guns, and so many more.

Ultimately, this list is endless and could be constructed a hundred different ways, but a hundred different people. However, there are some classics that simply must be remade for a new audience and generation.

10. Psychonauts

Psychonauts had a unique premise, good game-play and an utterly bizarre visual style. Whilst the game-play was solid and well worth a revisit, it is the game worlds that would be best benefitted by a remake.

The game took the premise of exploring other people's psyches and made really interesting and visually distinct worlds. Unfortunately, it is a victim of time and doesn't look as sharp as it used to. But imagine a developer taking their time with the remake and making their already creative and bizarre worlds even better.

Psychonauts relies a lot on it's worlds and the uniqueness of stumbling around them, so to bring that mentality into the current gen with new graphics would be a genuine joy.
