10 Video Games The Fans Saved From Their Own Developers

When a professional can't get the job done, it's time to call in the fans.

Though anyone that has ever had an eight-year-old with a headset inform them of their mother's lurid plans for the evening may disagree, the truth is that video games would be a lot more boring without the contributions of fans. This is especially true when it comes to generating additional content. There was once a time when gamers everywhere were reliant solely on developers to continue working on a game after its release, but that time is long gone. Now, anyone with a little know-how or even just the will to defy a development studio can make a contribution to their favourite releases. Some of those contributions are mere upgrades to already excellent experiences, but others are so good - and occasionally so necessary - that they end up finishing - or completely outdoing - the work done by the original team.

10. Mother 3 Is Translated Into Perfect English

Though it€™s not as big a problem as it once was, there are still many instances when a game is released in Japan that will never make it to the US. Most of the time, something is held back for being too bizarre a slice of Japanese culture, but Mother 3 was dropped simply because of poor Western market sales of predecessor Earthbound. However, the cult-like fans of Earthbound weren€™t about to let a sequel slip through the cracks. A particularly dedicated group of fans even managed to not only translate Mother 3 into English, but also to provide the kind of translation quality that usually requires a full-time team of professionals. Because of their efforts, English-speaking gamers are now able to experience one of the all-time great RPGs without a particularly good translation guide as their companion.
