Sonic Generations: a game that - by SEGA's own admission - exists purely as fan service for Sonic enthusiasts old and new alike by offering up a platter of cherry picked 'best bits' from 20 years' worth of games all about running fast.

Most Sonic fans agree that Generations was the best Sonic game in forever (at least, until Mania came along and blew everything away), and it went a long way in helping us cope with the traumatic memories we have of Werehogs and gun-wielding Sonic clones running a once-proud name into the mud. But it's also a painfully short dose of nostalgia that could have been so much more.

Nine full stages (eighteen if you count the modern and classic versions as separate levels) was never going to be enough content to do Sonic's big 2-0 birthday bash justice. Yeah, iconic stages like Sky Sanctuary, Green Hill and City Escape made the cut, but where were the likes of Ice Cap, Hidden Palace and Death Egg huh, SEGA? Thankfully, Sonic Mania made up for just about everything. Here's to a Sonic Mania 2.
