10 Video Games That Start Hard But Get A Lot Easier Later On

8. Viewtiful Joe

Zelda Link To The Past
Capcom

Viewtiful Joe was known for providing a real challenge, especially on the Adult difficulty, and the game doesn't let players off lightly in the early stages. In fact, the very first level of this cult Capcom classic starts you off as a very weak form of Joe, with just one of your super powers and barely any health.

The end-of-level boss for the first stage can be difficult with only one power and low hit points, and plenty of players fell victim to this fearsome first stage. And if you did die, there wasn't a single checkpoint so you'd be sent right back to the beginning to do it all over again.

Later on in the game, you get the opportunity to unlock all sorts of bonuses like extra health and additional attacks, as well as the remainder of Joe's super VFX powers. He starts off a weakling, but by the late game, Joe is one of the toughest characters around.
