10 Video Games That Totally Wasted Their Biggest Selling Point

7. The Return Of A Beloved Franchise - Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 5

For better or worse (most definitely worse in retrospect) 2015 saw the return of not one, not two, but three beloved franchises from the 2000s attempting to continue where they left off. However, whilst Guitar Hero and Rock Band were solid enough affairs that skirted by executing on established formulas, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 5 was a genuinely unfinished mass-market product, built and released to listlessly cash in on nostalgia.

Graphics debuted as lacklustre and later had an cel-shaded filter applied to try and 'convince' the public they'd improved, your special moves were no longer pulled off with skill, as a full meter now triggered a 'win mode' that played the game for you, and gone were the likes of Spider-Man and Darth Maul appearing as bonus characters; instead the new big 'get' was - wait for it - Lil' Wayne.

Score one for business executives appealing to 'the kids', eh?

It was quickly apparent that Robomodo just didn't have the time or talent to pull this together into the franchise love letter fans wanted or needed, and by charging full price for something that messed up the core foundations of gameplay from the get-go, it wasn't even fun in small bursts, killing the franchise stone dead from day one.
