The Dream: Grand Theft Auto V would release on September 17th 2013, and two weeks later on October 1st, GTA Online would launch, bringing to fruition the much-advertised and hugely-hyped Heist mode, which would allow up to 16 players to play together to carry out or stop a daring theft of money. The mode, like pretty much everything Rockstar puts their hand to, would go down a storm, and we'd be so glued to our consoles we'd forget that next-gen consoles were even a thing. The Reality: When GTA Online launched, Rockstar stated that Heists had been delayed for a brief period, which was disappointing enough. During late 2013, the developers remained curiously quiet about setting a definite release date for the update, though they were widely expected to drop long before Christmas. Still, 2014 rolled on and Heists were still nowhere to be seen, and when Rockstar finally gave them a vague "spring" dating, gamers became infuriated as that window passed by without a mention. It's August 2014, and a whole 11 months later, Heists still haven't materialised. It's widely expected that they're being held back for the next-gen and PC versions of GTA V, apparently due for release in November, but we'll have to wait and see. The tragedy, of course, is that we've pretty much lost interest in Heists now anyway: we've moved onto other games, and don't particularly care to reward stalling tactics like this. We love Rockstar as much as anyone, and this is one of their rare screw-ups, but it's one that really stings. Perhaps if they'd communicated with gamers a little better, we might be more understanding.
