10 Videogame Holiday Destinations You Should Avoid

9. Monkey, Blood & Skull Island - The Monkey Island Series

The Caribbean is a lovely place, and according to The Monkey Island games, is home to a plethora of exotic, sun-drenched islands. It is however best advised you stick to the more touristy islands of Melee (the most populous island in the Caribbean), Jambalaya (the gaudiest island in the Caribbean), Lucre (if you fancy buying a fake leg) and Plunder (the only place you can get a haircut). Blood Island meanwhile has little to offer other than eternal darkness, a grotty hotel, two cemeteries and a cannibal village. So we can draw a line through visiting here. A short boat trip away is Skull Island, and that€™s no better. The smallest island in the Caribbean, there€™s not much doing here either. They have a cliff (which you€™ll probably fall from) and a rock formation that looks like a duck. There is a cave in the side of cliff too but the only way to get there is to be lowered down on a pulley by a small, partially sighted, one-legged man. So we can€™t recommend that either. The titular Monkey Island however, is a place you really don€™t want to be taking a day excursion to. Made up almost entirely of jungle, the mysterious island is notoriously difficult to find, and there€™s little to do there when you arrive other than look at a volcano and avoid the Church of LeChuck. There was once a gold mine but that€™s long been pillaged, and almost all residents have moved to the nearby Dinky Island, leaving the place ruled by monkeys. The only real attraction is the giant monkey head on the southern tip of the island, but even that can be dangerous and can cause a river of lava. If you€™re lucky you might bump into a washed-up Guybrush Threepwood, and he€™ll probably be just as confused as you.
