10 Ways To Make The Perfect Star Wars Video Game
9. In-Keeping With Star Wars Dialogue
Though it may seem a minor criticism; the dialogue of many recent Star Wars video games has completely missed the style of the films, and even the novels, to an extent.
George Lucas would never admit it, but Star Wars is basically a Spaghetti Western set in space, and when the original script was written, there was obvious influence from the films of the 50s and 60s, which Lucas grew up watching. No one swears, everything is very proper and even the 'scoundrel' Han Solo is well spoken. Indeed, much of the dialogue in the films is actually fairly old fashioned.
This carried over to the prequel trilogy and even to The Force Awakens, but the video games have totally lost the concept of the series' signature conversational style. There's too much slang, too many contractions of words and it's all become a bit of a soap opera, to be honest.
If this has caused a glass-shattering moment of realisation, then naturally I apologise, but it's important to the whole experience of a Star Wars video game that the characters sound as though they could be part of the wider universe.
