10 Weirdest Video Game Boss Battles

Who doesn't love a good boss battle?

Often the key to an engaging and exciting boss fight is to make the enemy stand out from the usual grunts that you cut down with ease - perhaps they're bigger, stronger, faster, more tentacles - you know how it is. They should serve as a clear signal that the player has reached a milestone in the game, and when all is said and done, you should come away from the encounter feeling triumphant, maybe even heroic.

Well, not these guys.

See, not every boss can be a Bowser, a Ganon or a Sephiroth. We can't always feel as awesome as when we blast off Mother Brain's face or go toe to toe with any number of Gods or demons. Sometimes, developers simply choose to pepper their games with the bizarre and unexpected. It may be in the form of a boss battle that doesn't really leave you feeling cool and accomplished, instead it's more like an encroaching sensation of being scared and confused, questioning exactly what the hell you just witnessed.

Let us know in the comments how many of these freaky boss battles you've bested in your time, as well as any others that left you wondering exactly what the creators were thinking.

10. Majora - The Legend Of Zelda: Majora's Mask

I could go on for decades about what a masterpiece Majora's Mask is (I'll restrain for now though). Suffice to say, if you own a 3DS you really need to pick up the recent remake and gives it the love it deserves.

Anyway, it's fair to say that Majora's Mask is in general the weirdest Zelda game, with the weirdest bosses. There's a mechanical goat, a masked jungle man that I can't help but feel might be a teensy bit racist, and a fish called George (or something similar). None of the above are anywhere near as bizarre as the final encounter though.

The lead up to the endgame is odd enough. A demonic mask decides to possess the moon, so naturally Link gives chase... to the moon. Upon entering said astral body (which is a serene field dotted with children playing) you can finally fight Majora.

What follows is as far from any epic Link/Ganon battle as you can get. You're in a small room surrounded by fluctuating colours that give off an intense LSD vibe, and you fight a mask which eventually sprouts legs and then finally turns into a big ol' demon.

I've personally played through that last fight at least a dozen times, and I'm still not entirely sure what was going on.
