12 Characters That Should Return In The Next Mortal Kombat Game

5. Ashrah

Debuting in Mortal Kombat: Deception and despite giving the appearance of a modest and aristocratic woman, Ashrah is in actual fact a demon from the Netherrealm. She was once a member of The Brotherhood of Shadow, a cult worshipping the fallen Elder God Shinnok; until she refused to carry out an order commanded by Quan Chi. The necromancer instructed her sister to eliminate the now renegade Ashrah. Upon escaping her would be sibling-assassin, Ashrah came across a mysterious, holy looking sword, known as the Kriss. Using the blade to slay the demons of the Netherrealm, Ashrah began to learn that with every abomination she killed with the blade purified her soul from inherent evil. The Netherrealm cannot sustain a soul that is pure, a law that Ashrah would exploit. In continuing her desperate expulsion from the realm, unbeknownst to her that the 'Kriss' is actually the 'Datusha', a weapon designed for the genocide of vampires and other demons that cleverly deceives it's wielder to carry out its intended use with the promise of purification. During kombat, her special moves seem to embody the power of divine light, channelling this into frenzied spinning or dropping a cluster of light from the sky. She also seems to have mastery over a form of black magic as she weaponises a voodoo doll to dismember her opponent in gruesome ways for one of her fatalities. Her use of the Datusha sword spells for an interesting plot device when you cross it with Nitara. A weapon that seeks the demise of vampires is surely something Nitara would want vanquished. A story arc that would be given more depth in the biographies of MK: Armageddon and leave tails wagging for more. Would Ashrah still wield the blade if she knew of its true intentions? Is her ascension that important to her for her to murder those of her kind? What kind of dynamic does this pose for her? Tragedy usually springs from a person's duality and this could be something that would enable Ashrah to be a regular kombatant in the franchise. Questions like these are what we hope to see answered for an already well-embellished character.
