12 Hidden Gem PS4/Xbox One Games You Must Play

6. Hand Of Fate

Original game concepts are very few and far between these days, and when the thing you're trying to suggest a mass audience plays is routed in a deck-battling card game, they're more likely to run the other way. For Hand of Fate yes there's a deck-building element to it, but for every combat encounter they all play out in real time, Batman: Arkham-style. You'll watch things like Shield, Weapon and Item cards come to life and imbue your character with what you've found on your travels - and that's without addressing the crux of the game's narrative; it's all a battle of wits between you and an unnamed hooded man sitting opposite who's designed the game. Every time you edge closer to beating one of his bosses he'll grow more agitated, forever trying to trap you with different modifiers to your next combat encounter or dungeon crawl. It really is fantastic, and just through the mixing of RPG tropes, Roguelike elements and a 'choose your own adventure'-like approach to quest design, Hand of Fate is a hidden gem of the shiniest variety.
